I have a confession to make. It may not seem like much at the time of this post, but it will gain strength. I am using the framework called Thesis for my website and the original (as in, not copycat) version is a WordPress “theme”. Granted, Thesis didn’t set up my permalinks or categories, or even think of way to use them to mimic regular website structure. However, Thesis is like a WWE champion that can do ballet like a pro.
The theme I was using pre-WordPress was chosen for some very specific reasons. It was clean, easy to implement, easy to modify, and willing to play a supporting role to the content I wanted to present. Wanting to not lose such a well fit theme was barring me from really considering any CMS that would require hours to port the theme.
Then, while looking for something to use with one of my other websites, I came upon Thesis. I had seen it before, but the price tag made me never seriously consider it before. I have issues with needing to tweak things every week. I don’t want to spent more than five bucks on something I might get bored of within a month or around there. Unless it’s really awesome. And Thesis hits the spot.
This time, after looking over the information, watching some videos, and letting the consideration age a little bit in my head, I took the plunge. Knowing it was going to be one of those situations of love it or hate it, no fence-sitting, I hit the developer option. Good thing I did.
After fiddling around on the other site (which re-introduced me to Thesis), I set my good old theme to date Thesis. It took less than a day to get close to the previous look and another day to tweak things to a satisfactory level. At least enough to get my focus back on creating content, considering that I’m a perpetual “tweaker of the design”. Which Thesis makes okay.
If you want to be able to easily change, or tweak a little here and there, on your blog, then consider Thesis. Of course, the more you know about HTML, CSS, and PHP, the more you’ll be able to customize it. However, the default settings and options provide a lot of room to make it possible to create a unique-looking site without digging into custom style rules and functions.
